Summit Officially Announces Twilight Sequels

Summit has officially announced it has acquired the rights to all 3 novels, New Moon, Eclipse, & Breaking Dawn, & that Melissa Rosenberg will be writing scripts for NM & E.

This is from The Hollywood Reporter:

"With Summit Entertainment preparing to release its big bet "Twilight," the studio is moving potential future installments in the franchise into the development pipeline.

The company has acquired rights to the next three novels in Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster vampire series and has hired "Twilight" scribe Melissa Rosenberg to pen scripts based on "New Moon" and "Eclipse," the second and third books, respectively.

A fourth book, "Breaking Dawn," has not attached a writer.

"Twilight," which revolves around the relationship between an average teenage girl, Bella, and a vampire, Edward, in a rainy Northwest town, has been generating huge buzz ahead of its Nov. 21 bow.

Summit, which has been eager for a franchise as it rolls out its distribution slate, hopes that the movie's built-in teen and early-twenty something audience will get an added boost from older film goers.

In "New Moon," Edward leaves Bella, sending Bella into a depression and a friendship with another vampire. In the third book, "Eclipse," that relationship triangle evolves, while evil empires begin to pursue Bella.

"Breaking Dawn" pushes the plot further with a marriage between Bella and Edward.

The UTA- and 3 Arts Entertainment-repped Rosenberg, who also penned "Step Up" and is a writer/co-exec producer on Showtime's "Dexter," has said she was methodical in writing the scripts, choosing not to read future "Twilight" books so she could stay true to the evolution of the characters."

Stephenie Meyer in Entertainment Weekly

Stephenie Meyer has been chosen by Entertainment Weekly as one of their 25 Entertainers of the Year.

5. STEPHENIE MEYERIn May, the best-selling author of the beloved young-adult Twilight saga published her first adult novel, The Host, which settled in on the New York Times best-seller list for 26 weeks. Before summer was out, she wrapped up the Twilight series with the polarizing finale Breaking Dawn, which has sold 2.7 million copies. After the Dawn book tour, she returned home to watch the first cut of the movie adaptation of Twilight. After her wild year, Meyer isn't dreaming of an island vacation — just time to write. Given all the love out there for her work, that'd be a win for everyone. —Karen Valby

EW Part 5 interview

Here is the last interview of Rob with Entertainment Weekly. He answers some questions from fans.

'Twilight' Bumps AC/DC From Atop Billboard 200

The soundtrack to "Twilight" starts atop The Billboard 200 this week, becoming the third soundtrack No. 1 soundtrack this year after "Juno" and "Mamma Mia!"

The Chop Shop/Atlantic set moved 165,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, 29% of which (48,000) were digital downloads, the second biggest digital week for a soundtrack since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking album download sales in 2004. "High School Musical 2 bowed with 62,000 downloads in August 2007.

"Twilight," released in advance of the movie's U.S. theatrical premiere on Nov. 21, boasts tracks from Linkin Park, Muse and Paramore. It's based on the popular vampire-themed book series from author Stephenie Meyer.

Last week's No. 1, AC/DC's "Black Ice" (Columbia), drops to No. 2 with 160,000 on a sales decrease of 41%. The soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical 3" stays tight at No. 3 for a second week with a 32% slip to 110,000.

Moving 81,000, Hinder's sophomore Universal album "Take It to the Limit" bows at No. 4, besting the No. 6 peak of the band's 2005 debut, "Extreme Behavior." However, that effort ended up spending a whopping 96 weeks on the chart on its way to 2.7 million in sales.

Pink's LaFace/Zomba set "Funhouse" falls 2-5 with 73,000 (-60%), while John Legend's Columbia set "Evolver" is down 4-6 with 72,000 (-46%). Despite a 10% sales slip, T.I.'s Grand Hustle/Atlantic album "Paper Trail" keeps the No. 7 spot warm for a second week with 69,000.

Italian vocalist Andrea Bocelli arrives at No. 8 with "Incanto" (Decca), shifting 62,000. His last studio effort, "Amore," began at No. 3 with 113,000 in 2006.

Brad Paisley's mostly instrumental Arista Nashville album "Play" starts at No. 9 with 54,000. On Top Country Albums, it arrives at No. 1, Paisley's fourth chart topper there. Rascal Flatts' "Greatest Hits Volume 1" (Lyric Street) rounds out the top tier on the 200, slipping 6-10 with 39,000 (-56%).

Other debuts this week include Sarah Brightman's "A Winter Symphony" (Manhattan/EMI) at No. 38 with 14,000 and the Starbucks holiday compilation "Winter Wonderland" at No. 42 with 12,000.

Album sales this week came in at 7.02 million units, up 1% from last issue's charts and down 29% from same week last year.

Twilight one of "12 Holiday Movies Worth Unwrapping"

Twilight Opens November 21

The trailer for Twilight plays like another run-of-the-mill teen girl meets teen vampire love story. But if you've caught the Internet buzz (or been near a bookstore), then you know there's already a huge following for the film, based on the book series' rabid following. We just want to see what the hype's about, and if Harry Potter co-star-turned-bloodsucker Robert Pattinson can match up to Kiefer Sutherland's cooler-than-cool teen vamp in The Lost Boys.

Midnight Sun Scene Will Be On The TW DVD

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke reveals to MTV's Larry Carrol that a 'Midnight Sun' scene will be on the TW dvd:

MTV: While you were filming, the whole "Midnight Sun" thing occurred that caused [author] Stephenie [Meyer] to stop writing it. Assuming she ever does finish the book, would you want to reshoot "Twilight" from Edward's perspective?

Hardwicke: Oh, yeah. Robert [Pattinson] and I got to read that. Back in the early days, when we were trying to figure out his character; Stephenie gave us those chapters. It's very fascinating. I mean, you've probably read it on the Internet, but it's pretty intense from Edward's point of view. I'd love to do that too.

MTV: It's hard to think of a film where a director basically reshot the same movie but from a different actor's perspective.

Hardwicke: I think that's fascinating, though. Yeah, I think that would be awesome. Actually, I have to say one thing: On the DVD' I shot one little tiny scene that is from "Midnight Sun," and you're gonna see it on the deleted scenes. Nobody knows that yet.

LA Times TW Countdown: Day 9

Today the LA Times brings us an interview with Peter Facinelli, Dr. Carlisle Cullen himself. Here's an excerpt:

Talk about how you got cast in the movie.
My agent called me up and asked if I wanted to do a vampire movie. I was thinking blood and guts, something in the horror genre, so I said no. Then they said that Catherine Hardwicke was directing and that it was based on a really good novel. So I read the book and I loved it. I loved the love story set in this world of vampires, but more than that, I liked that it's about vampires exploring humanity rather than just being a vampire.

So I went and auditioned for Catherine and thought I did great -- but I didn't get it. They wanted an older actor. Carlisle is young in the book, but visually I was told they wanted his character to look a lot older than the kids. But that fell through and they came back to me.

San Francisco TW Hot Topic Event Canceled

Unexpected Crowd at Stonestown

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Police in San Francisco had to struggle to control a crowd of around 3,000 people who gathered at San Francisco's Stonestown Galleria Monday morning for the chance to see an actor who is very popular among the teenage set. KCBS' Holly Quan Reports

Police were forced to cancel the event, after the crowds grew out of control.

Teenagers, and their families had come from as far as Hawaii, Los Angeles and Arizona hoping to get a glimpse of Robert Pattinson, the 22-year-old British actor who played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies. He now stars in "Twilight," a vampire movie that is based on a very popular young adult book.

Around 200 to 500 people were expected to line up this morning to buy a wristband when the mall opened, that would allow them back inside the mall at 6 p.m. for a t-shirt signing at the Hot Topic store. Thousands showed up.

"After I got trampled I got back up there, but it was really scary cause I couldn't breathe, because everyone kept pushing," said fan Erica Martin.

One girl reportedly had her nose broken as a result of being crushed up against the front doors to the mall. Another girl fainted because she was unable to breathe while being pressed by the crowd. The line to get into the front of the mall stretched all the way around the block.

Stewart & All TW Vamps Signed For Three Movies

Reelz channel has confirmed that Kristen Stewart & all the TW Vamps are signed on for three movies:

"During the course of the marathon junket, we had the chance to confirm that each and every character from the book series is signed on to three Twilight movies.

What about Breaking Dawn? Since the book wasn't out when the contracts were drawn up, it was not part of the deal. Translation? If this series gets all the way to part four, Summit is either recasting or Stewart, Pattinson, Lautner, and crew can look forward to a nice, fat raise."
