Stephen King Comments On Stephenie Meyer

USA Weekend has an interview with Stephen King. In it, he comments on several authors, including Stephenie Meyer & J.K. Rowling.

"Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. ...The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."

"People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it's very clear that she's writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It's exciting and it's thrilling and it's not particularly threatening because they're not overtly sexual. A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that's a shorthand for all the feelings that they're not ready to deal with yet."

**Millions of readers of all ages & myself think your an amazing writer Stephenie!!!

She's a best seller so obviously she's doing something right. But this is coming from Stephen King, who's an amazing BUT demented writer. He's brilliant, but scary. He probably just feels like a vampire book should be something closer to the way he writes. lol

As a 48 year old mother of 3, and avid reader since the age of 5, I take extreme issue with Stephen King's comments regarding Stephenie Meyer. I am a HUGE fan of Stephenie Meyer's writing style, including her "non-twilight" book "The Host." I believe Mr. King crossed the line with his rude, personal comments regarding Stephenie as a writer/artist. With 4 books in the top 4 positions of the bestseller list, and a 5th book in the top 10, (all at the SAME time) I believe Stephenie is doing something right. Perhaps Mr. King is feeling a little threatened by her success. I am a member of a forum on amazon.com made up solely of women over thirty, all in love with Stephenie's writings. Our forum has the largest number of posts to date. So if you think we ladies are just trying to express our wittle feelings Mr. King, you are sadly mistaken. I personally will never pick up another Stephen King book...and I've read quite a few. Good luck as you watch your fan base rapidly drop.

I absolutely loved the Twilight series. However, my one complaint was always Stephenie Meyer's writing style. I'm going to have to side with Stephen King on this one. I think Meyer deals well with targeting the correct emotion for the moment. Describing that emotion, however, does not seem to be her specialty. The entire time I read the series, I envisioned Meyer writing with a thesaurus at her side. Some of the words don't flow because it appears that she was trying to sound intelligent when it wasn't necessary.
